Orientation Document
Procedures for Collaboration As noted above, proposals for targeted collaborative investigations on the cohort are welcome. An extramural investigator interested in conducting a collaborative investigation within the Agricultural Health Study should first contact a member of the AHS Executive Committee by e-mail/telephone to determine the interest/feasibility of conducting a specific targeted investigation. This would normally be followed by submitting a two-page outline of the study to the AHS Executive Committee. The AHS Executive Committee, in consultation with the AHS National Advisory Board, will evaluate and approve requests for data, samples, and/or add-on studies. Proposed research will be evaluated based on methodological soundness, scientific validity and importance, availability of monetary resources to conduct the study (i.e., the normal method for funding collaborative research is through an extramural grant) and potential to help the base population. If approved, all collaborative efforts must include at least one AHS researcher as a co-investigator. As with all AHS research, the rights and privacy of cohort members must always be respected as outlined in the AHS study protocol. Initial contact with the cohort member, if necessary to conduct the research, is normally conducted through the field stations in Iowa and/or North Carolina. See also Information for Collaborators. |
